Umrah is one of the most beloved acts of worship in Islam. And performing it according to Sahih Ahadees and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ensures that the worship is accepted and completed correctly. What Is Umrah in Islam?
لغت میں عمرہ کے معنی “زیارت” کے ہیں، جبکہ شریعت میں مخصوص مقامات سے احرام باندھ کر بیت اللہ کا طواف کر نا اور صفا و مروہ کی سعی کرنے کو عمرہ کہتے ہیں۔
The literal meaning of Umrah is “visitation”, and in the terminology of Sharia, performing Tawaf of the Kaaba from specific places in the state of Ihram and performing Sa’i to Safa and Marwah is called Umrah. Umrah is a recommended act of worship in Islam, also known as the “lesser Hajj.” It can be performed at any time of the year. The purpose of Umrah is to achieve purity, cleanse their hearts, and draw closer to Allah Almighty.
ضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت کی کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ایک عمرہ دوسرے عمرے تک (کے گناہوں) کا کفارہ ہے اور حج مبرور، اس کا بدلہ جنت کے سوا اور کوئی نہیں۔“ [صحيح مسلم/كتاب الحج/حدیث: 3289]
Important Masail Keep in Mind While Performing Umrah
- If you want to perform Umrah on behalf of someone, say “Allahumma labbayka ‘umra” and then say “an” and then mention the person’s name (اگر کسی کی طرف سے عمرہ کرنا ہو تو “اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ عُمْرَةً “کے بعد ” عن “ کہہ کر اس شخص کا نام لیں۔).
- After completing seven rounds and praying two rak’ahs in front of Maqam Ibrahim, cover your right shoulder, which was covered with a cloth. If the rak’ahs cannot be prayed directly in front of Maqam Ibrahim due to crowding, you can pray anywhere in the mosque (سات چکر پورے کر کے مقام ابراہیم کے سامنے دو رکعتیں پڑھنے سے پہلے دایاں کندھا جونگا تھا اس کو ڈھانپ لیں اگر ہجوم کی وجہ سے بالکل مقام ابراہیم کے سامنے رکعات نہ پڑھی جائیں تو مسجد میں کہیں بھی آپ پڑھ سکتے ہیں۔).
- If possible, touch the Rukn al-Yamani with just your hand in each cycle. If you are in doubt about the number of cycles, count the lesser number and complete the remaining cycles (ممکن ہو تو ہر چکر میں رکن یمانی کو صرف ہاتھ لگا کر چھو لیں۔ چکروں کی تعداد میں شک پڑ جائے تو کم تعداد کو شمار کر کے باقی چکر پورے کر لیں-).
- If your ablution breaks during Tawaf, perform ablution again and complete the rest of the cycle from there (دوران طواف وضو ٹوٹنے پر دوبارہ وضو کریں اور باقی چکر وہیں سے مکمل کریں۔).
- Friends traveling to Pakistan should not perform Umrah by entering Ihram from Masjid Aisha or their residence, as this is not correct (پاکستان جانے والے احباب مسجد عائشہ یا اپنی رہائش گاہ سے احرام باندھ کر عمرہ نہ کریں کیونکہ یہ درست نہیں ۔).
- Menstruating women should be engaged in remembrance and remembrance and should not enter the confines of the mosque (حیض والی خواتین ذکر واذکار میں مصروف رہیں اور مسجد کی حدود میں داخل نہ ہوں ۔).
- It is forbidden to hunt, marry or arrange a wedding, apply perfume, or even cut your nails while in the state of Ihram. Also, a woman should not wear gloves or a veil (احرام کی حالت میں شکار کرنا ، نکاح کرنا یا کروانا، خوشبو لگا نا حتی کہ ناخن کاٹنا بھی منع ہے۔ نیز عورت دستانے پہنے اور نہ ہی نقاب کرے۔).
A Step-by-Step Guide for Men and Women Umrah
Step 1: Entering the State of Ihram
احرام ( دو سفید ) چادروں کو کہتے ہیں احرام باندھتے ہوئے اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ عُمْرَةً کہیں۔ اللہ تعالی نے احرام باندھنے کے لیے مکہ مکرمہ کے چاروں طرف پانچ جگہیں مقرر کی ہیں۔ جنھیں میقات کہا جاتا ہے۔ اپنے علاقوں سے عمرہ کے لیے آنے والے وہاں سے احرام باندھ کر مکہ مکرمہ میں داخل ہوتے ہیں۔ پاکستان سے آنے والوں کے لیے میقات” یلملم “ ہے، جو بیت اللہ کے جنوب میں 92 کلومیٹر پر واقعہ ہے۔ پاکستان سے جانے والے وہاں سے احرام باندھیں، چونکہ پاکستان سے جانے والوں کو فضائی سفر میں بسا اوقات میقات کا صحیح علم نہیں ہوتا اس لیے جہاز میں سوار ہونے سے قبل احرام باندھ لینا جائز ہے۔ خواتین کا احرام عام لباس ہی ہے۔ صرف چہرہ ننگا رکھا جائے گا۔ البتہ وہ بھی غیر محرم سے بوقت ضرورت ڈھانپ لینا چاہیے۔ احرام کی حالت میں تلبیہ شروع کرنے سے پہلے قبلہ رخ ہو کر کچھ دیر تک سبحان اللہ ، الحمد للہ، اللہ اکبر پڑھتے رہنا صحیح بخاری کے مطابق رسول اللہ صلی الم کی سنت ہے۔
Ihram is called two white sheets. While putting on Ihram, say, “Allahumma labbayka ‘umra.” Allah Almighty has designated five places around Mecca for putting on Ihram. These are called Miqat. Those who come from their areas for Umrah put on Ihram from there and enter Mecca. For those coming from Pakistan, the Miqat is “Yalmalam”, which is located 92 kilometers south of the Kaaba. Those traveling from Pakistan should put on Ihram from there. Since those traveling from Pakistan often do not know the exact Miqat during air travel, it is permissible to put on Ihram before boarding the plane. Women’s Ihram is ordinary clothing. Only the face should be kept bare. However, that too should be covered from non-mahrams when necessary. In the state of Ihram, facing the Qiblah before starting the Talbiyah and reciting Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, and Allahu Akbar for some time is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) according to Sahih Bukhari.
Umrah Ki Niyat Ki Dua (عمرہ کی نیت کی دعا)
حضرت انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ کہتے ہوئے سنا: «لبيك عمرة وحجا» اے اللہ! میں حج و عمرہ (کی نیت) کے ساتھ حاضر ہوں۔ [صحيح مسلم/كتاب الحج/حدیث: 3029]
“Labbaik Allahumma Umrah” “اللهمَّ لَبَّيْكَ عُمْرَةً”
Step 2: Reciting the Talbiyah
Then recite the Talbiyah, recite it aloud, and the words of the Talbiyah are as follows:
“Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayka La Sharika Laka Labbayk, Innal Hamda Wan-Ni’mata Laka Wal-Mulk, La Sharika Lak.”
اس کے بعد تلبیہ پڑھیں، با آواز بلند پڑھیں اور تلبیہ کے کلمات درج ذیل ہیں
“لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ”
Men should recite Talbiyah loudly, while women should recite softly.
Step 3: Entering Masjid al-Haram
Upon arriving at Masjid al-Haram, enter with the right foot and recite the entrance dua. “اَللّٰہُمَّ افْتَحْ لِیْ اَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِکَ” When the Kaaba comes into view for the first time, pilgrims often become emotional. This is a blessed moment for sincere duas.
مسجد الحرام پہنچ کر دائیں پاؤں کے ساتھ داخل ہوں اور داخلے کی دعا پڑھیں۔ “اَللّٰہُمَّ افْتَحْ لِیْ اَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِکَ” جب خانہ کعبہ پہلی بار نظر آتا ہے تو اکثر زائرین جذباتی ہو جاتے ہیں۔ یہ مخلصانہ دعاؤں کے لیے ایک بابرکت لمحہ ہے۔
Step 4: Performing Tawaf Around the Kaaba
Begin the Tawaf at the Black Stone. If possible, kiss it or place your hands on it and face it or the Black Stone and say Allahu Akbar. It is Sunnah to repeat this action in each round. Walk a little faster in the first three rounds. Complete the subsequent rounds at a normal pace. Any supplication can be recited in all seven rounds. There is no specific supplication that is confirmed by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to be recited between the rounds of Tawaf. However, it is Sunnah to recite from the Yamani Rukn to the Black Stone: “Rabbana atina fi duniya hasanah wa fi akhira hasanah wa qina adhaaba an-nar.”
حجر اسود کے برابر سے طواف کا آغاز کریں ممکن ہو تو بوسہ دیں یا ہاتھ لگا کر چو میں یا حجر اسود کی طرف منہ کر کے اللہ اکبر کہہ دیں۔ یہ عمل ہر چکر میں دہرانا مسنون ہے۔ پہلے تین چکروں میں ذرا تیز چلیں۔ بعد کے چکر عام رفتار کے ساتھ مکمل کریں۔ ساتوں چکروں میں کوئی بھی دعا مانگی جاسکتی ہے۔ رسول اللہ صلی نام سے طواف کے چکروں کے درمیان پڑھنے کے لیے کوئی خاص دعا ثابت نہیں ہے۔ البتہ رکن یمانی سے لے کر حجر اسود تک رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ پڑھنا مسنون ہے۔
Step 5: Praying at Maqam Ibrahim
سات چکر مکمل کرنے کے بعد مقام ابراہیم کے سامنے دور رکعتیں ادا کریں۔ پہلی رکعت میں سورۃ الکافرون اور دوسری رکعت میں سورۃ الاخلاص پڑھیں۔ اس کے بعد زمزم پی لیں اور اگر ممکن ہو تو حجر اسود کو بوسہ دیں یا حجر اسود کے سامنے کھڑے ہو کر اللہ اکبر کہنے کے بعد ” بَابُ الصَّفَا” کی طرف صفا پہاڑی کا رخ کریں۔
After completing seven rounds, perform two rak’ahs in front of Maqam Ibrahim. In the first rak’ah, recite Surah Al-Kafirun and in the second rak’ah, recite Surah Al-Ikhlas. After that, drink Zamzam water and if possible, kiss the Black Stone or stand in front of the Black Stone and say Allahu Akbar and then head towards the Safa hill towards “Bab Al-Safa”.
Step 6: Performing Sa’i Between Safa and Marwah
“There is no god but Allah, oneness; He has no partner; to Him belongs the kingdom, and to Him is praise, and He is the One who has power over all things. There is no god but Allah, oneness.” He fulfilled his promise and won the victory and defeated the parties and united them.
Then take the path on the right from Safa to Marwah and run a little between the green light pillars. Climb up to Marwa and face the Qiblah and recite the same thing that was recited on Safa Hill, i.e. repeat the above words three times and supplicate each time. Then go to Safa from the right side and run lightly between the green light pillars as before. One circuit from Safa to Marwa and another circuit from Marwa to Safa is completed. Similarly, your seventh circuit will be completed at Marwa. You can recite any dua and dhikr in these circuits. After completing the seventh circuit at Marwa, shave your head and women should cut a little hair from the ends only. After that, wear normal clothes. Your Umrah is complete. (فَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ )
پہاڑی پر چڑھتے ہوئے تین بار اللہ اکبر کہیں اور پہاڑی پر پہنچ کر قبلہ رخ ہو کر مندرجہ ذیل کلمات تین مرتبہ دہرائیں اور ہر بار دعا کریں :
“لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَةً لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَةً اَنْجَزَ وَعْدَةً وَنَصَرَ عَبْدَةً وَهَزَمَ الْأَحْزَابَ وَحْدَةً”
اس کے بعد دائیں طرف کے راستے پر صفا سے مروہ کی طرف جائیں اور سبز روشنی والے ستونوں کے درمیان ہلکا سا دوڑیں۔ مروہ پر چڑھ کر قبلہ رخ ہو کر وہی کچھ پڑھیں جو صفا پہاڑی پر پڑھا تھا یعنی مندرجہ بالا کلمات تین مرتبہ دہرائیں اور ہر بار دعا کریں۔ پھر دائیں طرف سے صفا کی طرف جائیں اور پہلے کی طرح سبز روشنی والے ستونوں کے درمیان ہلکا سا دوڑیں۔ صفا سے مروہ تک ایک چکر اور مروہ سے صفا تک دوسرا چکر مکمل ہوا۔ اسی طرح آپ کا ساتواں چکر مروہ پر مکمل ہوگا۔ ان چکروں میں کوئی بھی دعا اور ذکر کر سکتے ہیں۔ مروہ پر ساتواں چکر مکمل کرنے کے بعد سر کے بال منڈوالیں اور خواتین صرف آخر سے تھوڑے سے بال کاٹیں۔ اس کے بعد عام لباس پہن لیں۔ آپ کا عمرہ مکمل ہو چکا ۔ (فَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ ).
